There is just one more week left until the end of the school year; as a teacher this means HOLIDAYS!
In Australia, school finishes about a week and a bit before Christmas, and many families (and teachers!) take the opportunity to make the most of 6 weeks off by going away!
Back in March this year, my husband and I knew we wanted to get away for the Summer holidays, and for once escape the intense Australian Summer heat. So what did we do?
We redeemed our Qantas frequent flyer points and booked a round the world (RTW) trip for 5 weeks!
We are so excited to be embarking upon our very first international, multi-continent and multi-country trip these Summer holidays, and it is my pleasure to share our adventures with you!
The RTW Trip Itinerary
Before redeeming our frequent flyer points, my husband and I mapped out our ideal RTW itinerary, knowing full well that when booking award seats for this trip, we may or may not get all the destinations we desired.
As it happened, 3 hours later on a phone call with a Qantas representative with some minor changes to the itinerary, we had booked our trip!
Below is where we are going!
19th – 23rd December: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Our first stop on our RTW trip is to Brazil! Very excited to be exploring this amazing city I have heard so much about. Definitely keen to see Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf mountain!
23rd – 29th December: New York City, USA
YES! We are so lucky to be spending our first Christmas as husband and wife in the beautiful New York City!
This will be our second trip to this wonderful city and are so excited to be exploring during Winter! Let’s hope we get some snow for a white Christmas (something we do not get in Australia!).
We plan to do all things in NYC to celebrate Christmas including a visit to the Rockefeller Christmas tree, the Christmas display windows on 5th avenue and so much more!
In addition, we hope to include some typical NYC sights and attractions such as the One World Trade Centre, The Top of the Rock and a stroll through Central Park!
Here are a few photos from my last trip to NYC in 2014:

29th December – 3rd January: Bergen, Norway
After a lot of convincing from my husband, I was persuaded to go to Bergen, Norway, and as our itinerary worked out we are spending New Years there too! We decided to have a bit of splurge on a nice hotel over the New Years period to celebrate!
3rd – 9th January: Levi, Finnish Lapland
We are staying at Hotel Hullu Poro in Levi Ski Resort and are going to be enjoying a full week of snow related activities including skiing, going on a reindeer ride, a husky safari and if we’re lucky, photographing the Northern Lights!! This will also be my very first time seeing snow!
9th – 12th January: Rovaniemi, Finland
Very excited to be exploring Rovaniemi in the Winter time! Planning to enjoy some more snow related activities as well as a visit to the one and only Santa Claus at the Santa Claus village. Also hope to have an opportunity to see and photograph the Northern Lights again!
12th – 16th January: St Petersburg, Russia
Another new country off the bucket list is Russia! First we stop in St Petersburg for a few days to explore the city.
I am expecting it to be quite cold (more like freezing!) but none the less I am very excited for a new country and a new city. Looking forward to visiting some of the beautiful palaces and cathedrals in St Petersburg, especially the Church of the Saviour on Blood!
16th – 19th January: Moscow, Russia
We have booked a train to travel to Moscow, another beautiful city in Russia.
One of the things I am most excited about to see in Russia is all of the beautiful architecture. Moscow in particular, is well known for the Kremlin, the Red Square and of course the amazing Saint Basil’s Cathedral which I have been dying to see!
19th – 24th January: Johannesburg, South Africa
SO EXCITED to be returning to Africa for the second time (a first for my husband!).
We are flying into Johannesburg, hiring a car and driving about 5-6 hours to a beautiful safari lodge in the Kruger National Park area.
This will be my second visit to Kruger National Park, and we are both looking forward to game driving to see the Big 5 and relaxing before heading back home to Sydney.
Here are a few photos from my last trip to Kruger National Park:
